5K Training Guide

Our friends at the Delaware Running company have prepared a 9-week training program, combining walking,  jogging and inspiration.  It's designed for non-runners to slowly and safely prepare to complete their first 5k, and it's a plan you can fit into a busy schedule. We want to see you cross the finish line, beaming with pride just like all the "Girls on the Run."  To print a copy of the training program, click here.

CAR RIDE QUESTIONS

Valuing Values and Learning Cooperation

1.  As then if they understand the difference between inner and outer beauty.  Share with your girl, your inner strengths and outer characteristics.  Let them explain to you what they think their characteristics are.

2.   Have everyone in the family write down their characteristics (inner and outer) on separate pieces of paper.  Put then in a bowl and draw one at a time  and try to figure out who that person is.  (example:confident, loves helping people, big feet, long toes, loves to make others laugh etc.)

3.  Play the whats important game.  Have the girls explain why its so important to have the perfect outfit.  Let them figure out how unimportant it is!!  Have them explain why it is so important to call or write a loved one.  Ask whether it is important to have a new shiny car? Make them talk it out so they understand.

4.  Cooperation is fun when you turn the tables around.  Trade roles on afternoon for an hour or two and have the girls be "in charge" and then totally do not cooperate for a few tasks, really earn an acting award with your interupting and distractions....then show them good listening........it works like a charm.

5.  Have silence time in the car one or two days this week, see if they can be quiet.

6. Play whisper down the lane with the family.

7. Ask the girls about their community project.  Get their thoughts on how they can be a better part of the community
