We will be teaching the 5-2-1 almost none healthy philosophy at our lessons. The focus is eat 5 fruits and vegetables a day, No more than 2 hours of screen time, One hour of exercise and almost no soda.
Here are 10 replacements for screen time...
10. Jump rope, have a catch, play badminton or Frisbee – even young children can catch on to and master these fun favorites. 9. Summer reading programs – often available through your local library – because their imaginations need a workout, too!
8. A picnic in the park – or in your backyard. Spread a blanket and pack a lunch loaded with summer’s bounty of fruits and vegetables.
7. Nature walks – kids love to spot tiny insects, colorful butterflies, darting birds and bunnies. Take a butterfly net, catch (for a closer look) and release.
6. Canoeing or tubing – meander down a lazy river for a pleasant afternoon.
5. Do crosswords, sudoku, jigsaw puzzles – finding the solution (with a little help) is just so satisfying!
4. Dance party – put on some pajamas and peppy tunes, twist and twirl the night away!
3. Go fishin’ – even if you don’t live near a genuine fishing hole, there are often stocked ponds at local and state parks and the thrill of catching a fish never gets old.
2. Family bicycling – more and more, communities are installing sidewalks and bike paths so families can cycle and scooter safely. Check out www.DelawareGreenways.org.
1. Water! From sprinklers to water balloons, pools to the beach, kids are rarely more content than when they’re making a splash.
